Trimming Your Plane

By: Troy Stotts Sept. 2005

This project started with a 60 size Global Right Flyer fuselage and 2 wing halves salvaged from two different Right Flyers that had been crashed.  This model is now owned by Rooster Lewman.

My choice of power for this project was a Magnum 91XL.   The engine sets higher than the recommended .60 so in keeping with the standard rule of thumb placing the center of the tank 3/8"-1/2" lower than the carburetor's spreader bar and as close to the engine as possible the tank ends up above the confines of the fuselage.
Once the tank was repositioned I plugged all the outlets except one and squeezed the air out of my suction bulb and slipped it on the remaining outlet and left it attached overnight. The bulb did not re-inflate indicating a leak free fuel tank.
Now that I was sure the tank was leak free I planked and covered it changing the profile of the plane.
Oops!  Fuel tank blocks the windshield now.
The tail feathers were salvaged from a wreck Astro Hog giving the model a flying tail with a symmetrical foil.  The stab, fin and elevator are larger than the original Right flyer so hoping for a a bit more response out of the modified version here.
