Preparing for Covering:

bulletPrepare a clean dry surface to work on.  I use a 18" x 48" piece of plate glass for my building and covering surface.
bulletIf you use a "new" blade each time you work it is safe to cut over the plate glass.  A used or dull blade will scratch the surface of the glass so exchange your blade for a new one frequently.
bulletSand the surface you intend to cover as smooth as possible.  Blow off all sawdust and debris to avoid imperfections.  The covering will not cover imperfections and will possibly even make them more noticeable.
bulletCut the covering 1 or 2 inches larger than the outline of the object you want to cover to give you ample material for handling.
bulletRemove the clear backing from the covering.  Placing a small strip of cellophane tape on each side will make removing the backing easier.

Covering techniques:

Relax and take your time.  A good covering job requires patience and attention to detail.

Set your iron to about 220 deg Fahrenheit.  (setting 2 on my iron)

Let the iron heat for about 5 minutes

Test the iron on a scrap piece of covering.  The heat should be just enough to stick the covering to the surface.  If the iron is not hot enough or to hot re-adjust the heat setting and test again in 5 minutes.  To little heat will not stick the covering to the surface.  To much heat will cause wrinkling, uneven application and will result in a covering that will sag with temperature change.

Covering the wing:

Unroll your covering on a clean surface and place the part you want to cover over the covering.

Cut the covering about 2" past the ends of your part to allow ample room for handling.
